***Very Important: Since so many people were absent during 4th & 5th hours and it was a Friday before the holiday week-end, I am going to offer a retake on the quiz. It will be on Wed/Thurs. (May 30 & 31). If you scored 8.5 or better, you have a choice to keep this grade or retake the quiz. Everyone else will retake:)

Week of Sept. 25th – 30th, 2011

Due to Rosh Hashana this Friday (no homework/quiz/tests) and the following Friday (no school = Teacher’s PD) I made a 2 week math calendar. Students will receive their 2 week math calendar on Monday and I will scan and have available here tomorrow (Monday).

Please note that all of your homework will be from your math textbook and you should be using your math journal to record your work NEATLY!!! Please see the model that I gave you to put in your math binder/folder or use the one I have here for you: Math Work Model for Math Journal 

Also: Please find here a copy of the Notes for this 1st unit of study: Principles of Algebra: Pre-Algebra Unit 1 Study Notes - this will help you to know what will be on your math QUEST (Quiz/Test).

Welcome Back:)

Please note that during the first two weeks of school we will be working together to build our learning community – this includes watching the movie ”Stand and Deliver” (Stand and Deliver Parent_Guardian Letter 2011) math survey, math goals, jobs, classroom/math expectations, etc. Students will have an active role in classroom responsibilities and for their learning – it is essential that we spend time together setting up our systems for the school year.

Also, we will be reviewing math skills and working with MEAP released items as we prepare for our curriculum journey:)

Hoping you were able to get your math journal for your homework. I have all of our purple pens for checking:)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Have you ever heard of “Harold and the purple crayon”? Well it inspired me with an idea to help students seek data from their homework when they prepare for quizzes/tests and their district math assessments. Stduents are required to get a math journal/composition book (graph or lined) so that they can do their daily math homework in a diary/journal format. When we check together, students will be given a purple pen to use to make edits/redo next to each problem. When it is time to prepare for a quiz/test, they are to look back at their “purple” so that they can focus on those concepts to review. I am hoping that students will use the journal method so that their work is in order to go back and easily review as a strategy to prepare for cumulative assessments.
